Scout, installed 2011, acrylic on ink jet print, 44"x34"Scouts series, 2009 - 2011. They are acrylic paintings done onto photographs I found online of proud Boy Scouts posing in front of American flags. As the Boy Scouts represents for me a means of indoctrinating consciousness into young minds with certain standards of patriotism, traditional gender roles, and work ethics, I painted toothy eyes and eyeball mouths to express my disgust.
